Unit 2
Designing Multimedia for e-Learning
-How to skillfully blend images, text, narration and interactive elements
-How to effectively use various modalities to promote better learning

-Incorporating games, simulations and interactive scenarios

Unit 3
New eTools for Developing Content Objects
-Using eTools for rapid development of web-based content objects
-Understanding commercial and non-commercial eTools
-Adopting new strategies for online course design with eTools
-Using eTools to increase learner engagement with course content

Course Objectives
-To address the issue of moving from text-based content to multimedia for greater learning outcomes and more effective teaching
-To provide techniques for designing visuals for teaching online, blended and classroom settings

-To have participants take away a set of skills on designing multimedia for online learning
-To give participants a knowledge of how to use eTools and integrate them into courses for greater learner engagement
-To provide participants with the knowledge necessary to adopt new multimedia strategies for online course design

Course Outcomes

-Get a set of information topologies to replace bullet lists and increase learning
-Possess the information needed to design effective multimedia for a course
-Understand why audio from the instructor enhances student learning and how to create instructor audio presentations
-Know how to incorporate eTools into a course to supplement one’s teaching and increase student engagement with course content

About your instructors

Diana L. Howles is owner and president of Howles Associates, LLC specializing in multimedia communication solutions such as visual design and presentations. She brings over twenty years of experience in the field of education and training. Her clientele has included government, corporate, insurance, financial, and academic institutions. As a former instructor at both public and private academic institutions, she is an experienced educator with a passion for lifelong learning. As a chapter past president for the American Society for Training and Development, she has also worked as an instructional designer and trainer in multimedia and e-learning. Diana has an M.A. from Colorado State University and holds an undergraduate degree in communication and business. She delivers keynotes and workshops at various national and regional conferences and events.

Dan Belhassen is an expert in web technology. He does writing, training, and consulting all over North America on the topic. He is founder of  Neovation, an internet technology company located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.  His company is involved in a range of technology services, including building eTools and online learning modules, web design, online classroom design, and server hosting. He has over 600 clients on 4 continents.

Belhassen is a featured expert by the Learning Resources Network for its conferences, seminars, and online courses. Dan spends about three hours a day researching web technology and is a popular instructor on the topic.
