Here are the five factors for success with Facebook, the social media used by 100% of lifelong learning programs recently surveyed by LERN.
The average age of Facebook users is around 40 years of age, but Facebook is a great way to reach both your younger and senior markets as well.
Some 45 percent of online Seniors aged 65+ are on Facebook as are around three quarters of those between ages 50-64. Additionally nearly three quarters of online users with incomes over $75K are on Facebook. Among younger users, 82 percent of college graduates are on Facebook.
According to an exclusive LERN survey of successful lifelong learning programs, 100% of you have a Facebook page and boosting posts and/or Facebook ads ranks in the top five digital marketing strategies for our field. Here are 5 tips for success with Facebook.
Tip #1: Target people who know you.
One way to do this is through re-targeting or re-marketing. This simply means sending relevant content to people who have visited your website. Usually, sending them to a landing page on your website is the way to start.
Tip #2: Target people like those who are your fans.
This is a standard way to grow your audience, since people who share key characteristics are often share interests.
Tip #3: Boost your Posts.
A boosted post is the simplest way to increase the reach of your post. You can simply select “boost post” on your business page, more people will see it. This is a great technique to get more likes, shares and comments, and is relatively inexpensive. To use Facebook Ads, you will need to have a Facebook Ad Manager account.
Tip #4: Experiment with Facebook Ads.
Facebook ads provide more targeting opportunities and allow you to have a more sophisticated marketing effort on Facebook. Facebook ads are a more advanced way to advertise on Facebook and will require a Facebook ad manager account. For ads, you will need to boost your posts through the ad manager, rather than directly from your business page.
Running ads, rather than just boosted posts has a number of advantages:
- More options. Ads allow you to measure metrics such as likes, clicks to website, engagement, website conversions, response to offers, video views and more.
- Ads allow you to add a “call to action” button encouraging people to ‘sign up now’ or ‘contact us’ and other actions.
Tip #5: Post regularly.
There are some rules of thumb regarding how often you should post on Facebook. LERN recommends two to three times per week. Assess your audience and determine whether there is an optimal number for you. Also, review the insights for your pages. Know when your fans are online and post so that you get the highest exposure.
