Your brochures are now stored in a university library for history and research purposes. LERN is now working with Syracuse University Special Collections Library to archive and save brochures from lifelong learning and continuing education programs.
LERN has shipped 185 boxes of program brochures from 1980 to 2012 to Michele Combs, Lead Archivist for Syracuse Special Collections.
“We are delighted the history of lifelong learning will be preserved by Syracuse Library, and we thank Alex Charters and Syracuse for this important archive and research library,” noted William A. Draves, LERN President.
Alex Charters, now 96, received a Lifetime Achievement Award from LERN in 2004 for his work in adult education. Charters initiated the LERN arrangement with Syracuse.
We believe this is the largest and only collection of lifelong learning and continuing education brochures in existence. LERN felt that Syracuse University, with expert archivists, would better preserve the brochures, as well as make them more available to the public and researchers.
