With funding and institutional support issues, successful lifelong learning programs have discovered the more centralized their operational tasks, the more increase in staff productivity.
Proactive operations teams continue to pull routine tasks from revenue generating staff, such as scheduling repeat classes or sections. As the operations teams have proven they can be trusted, operational tasks have been passed on to the operations team and efficiency and productivity has increased. In many lifelong learning programs, the percentage of staff involved in operations has increased from 20 percent to as high as 50 percent.
Two things:
1.Look for more on the growing important area of operations in the Fall 2018 LERN Magazine.
2.The first “Operations Gathering” and convening of operations staff will occur at the big LERN annual conference in Savannah, led by LERN’s Greg Marsello. It will be held Wed Nov 7 at 4 p.m. Photo: Savannah street in the historic Victorian district.
