Do More Recognition

Nobody gets too much recognition, says Tim Litfin of Minnetonka, Minnesota.  His community education program is ranked annually as one of the top ten in North America.

Do more recognition for your volunteers, instructors, staff, advisory boards, business partners, and anyone else who helps your program be successful.

“You have the opportunity to pat someone on the back every day,” Litfin notes.

Recognition efforts range in cost from zero dollars on up.  Litfin’s annual budget for recognition events is just $10,000. Your program will reap many times that dollar figure in time, loyalty, spreading the word, and of course quality.

Here’s just 3 of Litfin’s innovative ways to praise people.
1.Walls of fame.
Use your hallways, entrance and other walls to post pictures, awards and names of those you recognize.

2.Step stickers.
Put custom-made bumper stickers on your heavily trafficked steps leading to a second or third floor.

3.Yard signs.
Banners on your building, yard signs on the front lawn, and posters entering the building are all free available space to utilize.

Your participants will like the recognition signs too. They reinforce their perception that your program is a quality one. Recognition signs are NOT perceived as advertising.

“Staff and Volunteer Recognition,” with more Tim Litfin tips and techniques for a win-win for your people and your program, will be available soon.  The special report is free to LERN members. Sign up early to get yours the day it is released. Email Roy at info@lern.org and ask for “Recognition report.”
